Keeping your Evolis Primacy printer clean is essential for maintaining print quality and extending the life of your machine. Follow these step-by-step instructions to ensure your printer stays in top condition.
Why Regular Cleaning is Important
Regular cleaning of your Evolis Primacy printer prevents dust and debris from affecting print quality. It also reduces the likelihood of printer malfunctions, saving you time and money in the long run.
Materials Needed for Cleaning
Before you start, gather the following materials:
- Cleaning cards (1 x T-shaped cleaning card, 1 x adhesive cleaning card)
- Cleaning swabs / cleaning pen
- Gloves (optional for handling cleaning agents)
Step 1: Turn Off and Unplug the Printer
The first step in cleaning your Evolis Primacy printer is to ensure safety. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Allow the printer to cool down for a few minutes to avoid any electrical issues or injury during the cleaning process.
Step 2: Clean the Exterior of the Printer
Using a lint-free cleaning wipes slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, gently wipe down the exterior of the printer. Focus on removing any dirt, dust, or smudges, especially around card input/output areas.
Step 3: Clean the Card Feeder and Rollers
- Open the card feeder compartment and remove any cards. If the printer has a card thickness selector, slide it to maximum thickness.
- Open the packaging of the T-shaped cleaning card. When the cards and ribbon LED is flashing / the touch-sensitive screen indicates, insert the T-shaped cleaning card through the card feeder until it is drawn into the printer.
- The printer will run the T-shaped cleaning card back and forth for about 30 seconds, then eject it. And discard the T-shaped cleaning card.
- Remove the film from the adhesive cleaning card and hold with the adhesive side upwards. When the cards and ribbon LED is flashing / the touch-sensitive screen indicates, insert the adhesive cleaning card through the card feeder until it is drawn into the printer.
- The printer will run the adhesive cleaning card through the printer then eject it. And discard the adhesive cleaning card.
- If needed, use a cleaning swab to manually clean the rollers and feeder.
Step 4: Clean the Printhead
The printhead is one of the most critical parts of the printer and should be cleaned with care.
- Open the printer cover to access the printhead.
- Use an Evolis cleaning swab or pen dipped in isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the printhead in a single direction. Avoid scrubbing or applying too much pressure to prevent damaging the sensitive component.
- Let it dry completely before closing the cover.
Step 5: Clean the Interior and Sensor
Dust can accumulate inside the printer and on the sensor.
- Use a soft lint-free cloth to wipe the interior, removing any visible dust.
- If dust is stuck in hard-to-reach areas, use a swab to get into crevices.
Step 6: Final Check and Test Print
Once everything is cleaned and dry, plug the printer back in and turn it on. Run a test print to ensure the cleaning process has been successful and that the print quality has improved. If any issues persist, repeat the cleaning steps or consult your Evolis printer manual for troubleshooting.
How Often Should You Clean Your Evolis Primacy Printer?
It is recommended to clean the Evolis Primacy printer after every 1,000 card prints or every time you change the ribbon. Regular maintenance will help keep your printer in top condition and ensure consistent print quality.
